Week 32, 2025

I updated my page about bird nest live streams with a new nest this week! There's a Bearded Vulture in South Africa with 2 eggs that are about to hatch any day now. The live stream doesn't run all the time, unfortunately, and only runs for a few hours at a time before starting a new video, for some reason, so it's a big hard to keep track of this nest, but I'm hoping to see some baby vultures soon.

I also made some other minor edits to note that Milda & Madis's unnamed Lesser Spotted Eagle baby's stream is completely down now, so I haven't seen that baby at all for a week or so, and it's probably fledged by now. The other LSEs I've been watching mostly don't visit their nests these days, except Reinis, who's been visiting for a little bit most days.

The White-bellied Sea Eagles in Sydney are also very close to hatching their 2 eggs, with pip watch starting later this coming week. No eggs in the Osprey nest in South Australia yet, but hopefully soon.

I'm taking a statistics subject this semester, and I'm about 2 weeks in so far. It's not super hard so far, but it does take time for the concepts to sink in.

The redesign of Exist is creeping ever closer to launch. I finally ticked off the last big blocker on my to do list for the iOS app, so now I'm just focusing on fixing bugs, polish, and smaller bits and pieces that were bumped down my list of priorities earlier. We're looking forward to getting the new apps into everyone's hands very soon.

I did a bit of extra driving practice this week and it went fine. I still don't drive a lot since passing my test last year, because I still find it stressful and difficult and we really don't need to drive much, so I have to make opportunities to practise. But I'm lucky that Josh pushes me to practise sometimes when I wouldn't otherwise, because I need it, and usually it reminds me that actually, I can drive, and it's okay. It's not great, it's not pleasant, but it's doable.

I'm about halfway through Curlews on Vulture Street by Darryl Jones, and I'm enjoying it a lot. So far it's been a lot more about Jones's journey to becoming an animal researcher, which I didn't expect. I actually enjoyed a lot of that, so it worked out for me, but I didn't expect it based on how the book is described. The second half of the book is more focused on the actual animal research now that Jones has finished his PhD, which I also like. There's lots of interesting information about Brush Turkeys and Magpies so far.

It's Hobonichi preview month, so I've been keeping an eye on the updates each day, and thinking about my planners for next year. It seems like there aren't any big changes to the planners themselves for 2026, which is a shame, because I'd love to see grid lines on the Weeks pages since it's hard to write neatly on blank pages. I'd also really like an A6 planner option that includes weekly pages, but I guess that won't be coming this year. Sales don't start until the 1st of September, so there's plenty of time to think about my options for next year.
